Mobile PACS reporting solution
CDN Announces Merlin PACS Viewer for mobile applications.
Providing long distance reporting of Radiology images presents many technological challenges, not the least being the need to move large data files consisting of high resolution medical images rapidly and securely over long distances.
CDN announce Merlin PACS Viewer for mobile applications
With this tool set we are delivering the ability for a Radiologist to provide a fully dictated report using digital dictation technology with the new CDN Merlin PACS mobile application.
Central Data Networks have been working with a number of our customers to improve the mobile reporting capabilities of our PACS solution. Initially we provided the Merlin Web software which is a browser based viewing tool. Merlin Web is widely used within hospitals and Private Radiology groups to send diagnostic reports and images to the originating referring GP’s.
Building on this solution, CDN has added our Doctors Scheduling tool that allows a roster to be established for a group of Doctors. The scheduler will automatically cache studies from the central PACS to the Doctor who is rostered to do reporting that day, night, or by location. Changes can be made on the fly if the roster changes and studies can be manually “pulled” from the PACS using the “Cache to me” facility within the CDN solution.
Compressed, lossless algorithms are applied to transmit diagnostic grade images across mobile 3G networks. These can be cached in the background to allow a number of studies to be available for reporting at the Radiologist’s laptop immediately. Multi-modality support provides the capability to report both lossless and lossy images using DICOM standards.
In cases where fully DICOM resolution is necessary, images can be transmitted in background mode, and the Radiologist can magnify and manipulate the image to provide a diagnostic report. The CDN Merlin PACS viewer for Mobile applications provides the full set of diagnostic image manipulation tools. It has a simplified work-list to sort on a more limited set of data for mobile use.
Long distance reporting is also being achieved by a number of our customers including Radiology South Australia who provide overflow and remote reporting services for Cairns Base hospital from as far away as Adelaide, 2,700km away in South Australia.
Support for mobile devices.
The CDN mobile solution product set also provides support for mobile devices.
CDN is able to deliver both DICOM and WEB images to mobile systems such as the APPLE iPhone and iPAD and Windows 7 based tablet PC’s.
